HOW MANAGING STRESS IS MORE THAN A SKILL
Stress is an inherent part of our life. However, we don’t all experience stress the same way. Something that is stressful to you, may not matter to another person.
How you deal with stress, though, could impact others around you, even if they are not directly involved in your situation.
With practice, you develop a process to deal with what you consider stressful, using different techniques, depending on the outcome you seek.
Wanting to quickly dismiss an issue that is impeding your day-to-day activities, you may not think about the outcome itself.
Depending on how you responded (or not) to specific stress, this may affect your team members, for example, or conversely, inspire them to learn from your leadership.
In many circumstances, stress is a by-product.
Some situations you face require a swift action, while others call for a strategy, a progressive number of actions. Left unattended, when they had minimal impact, some events will trigger trouble as a consequence.
Understanding your definition and response to stress is crucial to adopting the right attitude.
Honing stress management skills enable you to stay calm and focused, when unexpected challenges strike in life.
In addition, the way you manage to keep stress at bay will prevent consequences on your health.
Likewise, you can prevent stress from overflowing around you and affecting your family, or your colleagues.
Managing stress can be more than a skill. For the unflappable, it is an art, one worth developing over time.
